The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, has described the role of the Institute of Strategic Development Communication in facilitating National discourse on topical issues as apt and commendable.
Professor Suleiman said this while declaring open the 3rd International Conference on Communication and Development in Africa with the theme “Strategic Security and Health Communication for Sustainable Development in Africa”, which took place at the School of Postgraduate studies Nasarawa State University, Keffi on Thursday.
Professor Suleiman said, “our Institute for Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM), the organisers of this conference, serves as a shining light of what the University stands for in terms of innovative contributions to the development of research, networking, and scholarship.”
He said, “through ISDEVCOM, our University is credited with championing curriculum development in Science Communication for Universities in Africa. A feat that was achieved through our subsisting partnership with SciDev UK and funded by Bosch Stiftung of Germany. ISDEVCOM popularised Science Communication in Nigerian Universities and internationally mentored the Makerere University in Uganda”.
There were goodwill messages from the governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of information Barr. Yusuf Musa, and representation from NDLEA, Customs, NSITF, amongst other partners.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Otive Igbuzor, Former Country Director, Action Aid International, Founding Director African Centre Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, and Currently Chief of Staff Deputy Senate President, National Assembly.
