The Registrar of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Mallam Bala Isyaka Ahmed II, was on Friday conferred with the Nelson Mandela Imperial Peace Ambassador Award by the Commonwealth Students Youth Federation for Peace.
The award was presented to the Registrar in his office, which was witnessed by other principal officers of the University and heads of units of the Registry Department.
The leader of the delegation and president of the Association, Hon. Chekeba Epah Mensah of the University of Professional Studies, Madina, Accra-Ghana, said the award is strictly reserved to recognise and appreciate leaders of courage who have distinguished themselves by contributing in their various fields of endeavours towards the development and prosperity of the African continent.
He described Mallam Bala as a rare African who have written their names on the sands of history. He noted that the Registrar had distinguished himself as a selfless leader whose well-articulated policies have transformed the University through selfless and transformational leadership ideology.
While receiving the award, Mallam Bala said he was humbled and appreciative of the award, especially coming from a Pan African association with connections to great Africans like Kwame Nkrumah and Nelson Mandela.
He promised to continue to uphold the qualities that earned the recognition expectations. He said the honour will also inspire him to do more.
The high point of the occasion was the presentation of the award to the Registrar and dressing him in the traditional Kente attire usually worn by the great Kwame Nkrumah.
On the delegation of the Commonwealth Students, Youth Federation for Peace are Hon. Brenda Pamabu of Uinverssite De Yaounde 1 Cameroun, Comrade Eveh Dominic of Benue State and Comrade Pablo David from Senegal, Dakar.
The event also had in attendance the Bursar, Mr. Micheal Sabo Waki, the University Librarian, Dr. Aliyu Abdulkadir, the Deputy Registrar, General Administration, Mr. Bala Attah, Deputy Registrar Council Affairs, Mr. John Danladi Efuna, SSANU Chairman, Comrade Simon Yakubu, and the Information and Protocol Officer, Mr. Abraham Habu Ekpo.
